How we were told

Here is how Ethiopians were told about the overthrow of Emperor Haileselassie, the departure of Mengistu Hailemariam and the death of Meles Zenawi.

Emperor Haileselassie ruled Ethiopia for 44 years and he was deposed suddenly on 12 September 1974. His successor Mengistu Hailemariam was in power for 17 years and unexpectedly fled the country on 21 May 1991 succumbing to pressure and imminent fight on his doorstep with the EPRDF rebels. Meles Zenawi took control of the country after Mengistu in 1991 and suddenly died in July or August 2012. Many believe that he died in July and the regime kept his death a secret for weeks for political reasons. He was announced dead on 21 August 2012. Here is how Ethiopians were told about the overthrow of Emperor Haileselassie, the departure of Mengistu Hailemariam and the death of Meles Zenawi.
