This video will show you how to Fix Error: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
If the video does help try the fix below.

For me, it was possible to avoid the error “the selected disk has an MBR partition table on EFI partition, windows can only be installed to GPT disk” in the following way: Back to OSX, I used “Disk Utility” to remove the windows partition leaving its space FREE (i.e.: I left only the OSX partition and removed totally the windows partition previously created with bootcamp). Back to the windows installation, the system asks to install windows in the free space and allows to finish the installation. It worked in my 2011 iMac with Yosemite installed and now also with windows 8.1 Pro.

it worked but theres no sound, not even speakers or headphones will come up in sound settings as output devices
only one device is there, "AMD HDMI output" which says "not plugged in" below it
getting bootcamp to work was a days worth of work and 2 days worth of preparations, i really dont want it all to go to waste and not be worth it in the end because theres no sound.
help?
Currently trying again after a fresh HD wipe and clean install of OS X High Sierra on my iMac mid 2011. I am facing the same issue I had faced before…GPT error. I am using a DVD, and am using the windows boot up option. When attempting to EFI boot, it just takes me straight back to OS X without booting into Windows installer at all. I have tried changing to Ex-FAT also. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. Confused as to why I cannot get into EFI boot. Thanks in advance!
3 minutes 30 seconds: do this, do that.
last 12 seconds: Oh yeah if shit doesn't work START THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE FROM SCRATCH
I can’t find EFI boot please help

I managed to get windows 10 on my late 2011 MacBook Pro but I can’t get the sound to work? Can any one help please? Thanks
Thank you so much for your help, i was gonna lose my whole semester of architecture because i cant install revit on mac and i needed windows and i ve been struggling for a week now and my midterms are near, you are a life saver god bless you
It’s work but after instal windows it will restart automaticaly and you can acces windows just in safe mode
I had the same error, I fixed that making the windows partition from Bootcamp app not from Disk Utility!! (didn't work for me), I didn't need to install from EFI boot, I installed it from Window option.
I installed it from a Windows 7 disk (not a .iso), 64bits, OSX El Capitan.
Good luck!
did this and i still get the error saying “the selected fish has an MBR part table, windows can only be installed on GPT disks.” any ideas?
Thank you for your help. I did it.
didn’t work but thanks anyways
It´s not working on OSX Yosemite on a MacBook Pro 7,1
IT DID NOT WORK FOR ME ….HOWEVER TO FIX IT: Simply format the bootcamp partition as "Mac OS journaled" on Mac Disk Utility (instead of EXFAT as the video) …then try to install again (you may have to delete the bootcamp partition thru win install one final time …but then the error goes away after…
Thanks dude 🙏🏽
Tried EFI Boot, (win 7 pro DVD disci have)and got a black screen.
Still didn't work.
But I am still having the same issue
Thank u so much bro, you just saved me
Thank you!!!!!! I was stuck on that screen for an hour. Thank you!!!!
Holy Stephen Hawking! It works! You're a lifesaver mate. Respect from Cambodia 🇰🇭
Not working on macbook pro late 2011 SSD
Thank you so much. A simple format on disk from the EFI installed it.
Have a great day.
I dont have efi boot screen?
Oh my God . This fixed my Dell Inspiron 15 that I've been trying to fix for the last year and a half. It was defective, and I'd been stuck in a bootloop, among other things. I was finally at the last hurdle, I'd mistakenly deleted a partition, no longer had any flash points to load from, and I thought all was lost. Dude, thx so much for sharing this with us. I'm beyond euphoric right now !
I got the last error in ur video wt can I do ?
Worked for me. Windows 10 Pro. macOS Mojave
Cheers thanks
Awesome, dude!!! 👍👍👍
This is real magic, specially choosing oh exFAT and loading from "EFI" partition! From not a deep view, that's nosense of creation any other but NTFS file system.
The guys from Cupertino made life very difficult for their customers, in fact, taking away the hours of their lives. This can not be left just like that, I have already written a corresponding letter to Apple.
Best Windows 10 Help Video EVER
This worked for me too
Mac Pro 2010 high sierra
Windows 10
It WORKED
Holy crap why doesn't Mac make it easy to do this! I finally found this video and did everything step by step and it worked. The formatting of NTFS on the partition AFTER bootcamp assistant created it was the part I was getting stuck on beforehand. Why wouldn't bootcamp assist format it correctly in the first place?? The only hiccup I had was after restarting that, I held the alt key (windows keyboard) and it didnt go into utility boot the first time, had to manually restart and try it again. Otherwise worked exactly how it should have because of your video. Thank you for what you do. Saved me days worth of work trying to figure this out. Man, how can anyone do this on their own without going through these hoops?? Crazy.
Bloody legend
This worked for me only after i booted to windows (not efi), formatted the partition and i still got the "Windows cannot be installed to this partition. The disk is of gpt partition" error….then i closed everything and restarted the system (pressing down the alt button) and booted to efi, only then, was i able to boot to efi. before then, my efi boot was failing. Hope this helps someone.
PS: the solution in the video may also not work if you have an encrypted hard disk until you decrypt your hard disk.. you have to decrypt it by turning off "file vault" …you may Google that for steps on how to do it.. it takes about an hour depending on the size of your HD..
Thanks for your help@123myIT.
Cannot believe it!! It actually worked by simply switching to EFI boot. You are my hero! I really hope to understand why it works.
My efi boot doesn't..it runs into an error about windows ran into a problem, press enter to retry or f8 for recovery
If i already formatted macintosh hd into exFAT, can I still be able to format it into mac extended journal (it's original format) Thank you very much!
Thank you
If you can't get sound to work it is since EFI doesn't really work with sound drivers. You have to follow these steps, and hopefully sound will work
1. backup you mac (since MacOs will get deleted in the next steps)
2. Go to boot menu and go to the CD icon that says Windows (not EFI boot)
once windows installation language and layout selector appears, press Shift and F10, then Command prompt will open
type the first command, click enter, type the second command, click Enter, so on:
diskpart
sel disk 0
clean (this is where MacOS is deleted)
cre part pri
sel part 1
active
format fs=ntfs label=BOOTCAMP
assign letter = V
exit
exit
Now the GPT error is bypassed without any EFI problems
i found out about this since someone ins this video's comments said that he did this
hope this will work
